Went hiking on Saturday with a University of Calgary group to welcome Spring! It was a beautiful day with temperatures in the mountains (or should I say the mountain outskirts) reaching +20 Celsius. The wind made things cool at first, but it was pretty much non-existent once we reached the trails. And a variety of trails there were! Good thing there were signs and maps otherwise a person could get lost out there. Well maybe not that lost, as there were at least two separate campgrounds we hiked past, which looked pretty full. Along the trails were various day use areas too, so lots of people around. My fitbit logged 8 kilometers and more than 10,000 steps for this hike!!
Below is some of the terrain we covered on the trails. Some were rocky and others covered with tree roots, so you had to pay attention to where you were going and what you were stepping on in order to not trip and injure yourself. I wouldn’t say the trails were overly difficult, I’ve definitely been on more challenging ones. There was some hilly spots but overall the area was relatively level.
A few of the trail signs along with the Mount Yamnuska sign:
Scenic shots of the area, some with Mount Yamnuska in the background. Mount Yamnuska is a very prominent looking mountain that is hard to miss on Highway 1 between Calgary and the mountains. When heading east to Calgary, it is one of the last mountains on the left that you see before the land flattens out.
Some of the Spring flowers blooming in the area:
Beaver dams! We didn’t see any beavers though:

I’m looking forward to next week’s hike with my U of C group! We are doing Ranger Ridge which I believe is west of Bragg Creek, we shall see!
