Whitehorse, YT: Part 2!

By

Homeward bound!!  After a six hour drive south from Dawson City to Whitehorse with a pit stop at Pelly Crossing for fuel, I made it back to Whitehorse.  “I always like going south. Somehow, it feels like going downhill.” – Treebeard, Lord of The Rings

About 45 minutes outside of Dawson, I saw the turn off to take the Dempster Highway up to Inuvik and Tuktoyaktuk, Northwest Territories.  Doing that trip had been my original plan way back when, but I changed my mind a few days before I left home.  It was a lot more driving time on a very remote gravel highway and if I did that then I most likely would not have popped over to Alaska or done the lower part of Northwest Territories.  I would still love to do the Tuktoyaktuk trip.  You can drive all the way there now as of 2017.  And there’s an Arctic Circle monument along the way that would be a good photo op.  I still want to sail the Arctic too!!  Although with visits to NWT and Yukon done, maybe I should now look to Nunavut for that.

I saw this ‘Welcome to Whitehorse’ sign on my way into Whitehorse the first time around, but it was in a small parking lot that was completely full and then some with trucks and RVs.  The road it’s on is a pretty major thoroughfare too, so couldn’t really pull over elsewhere.  So here it is now: Welcome to Whitehorse, The Sequel!!  Note the lack of hoodie… still no bugs!!

Visited some coffee roasters/brewers.  Bean North is in the boonies about a half hour north of Whitehorse, so I actually stopped here on way my down from Dawson:

Just what I need, another toque!!

I love how these coffee places name themselves so appropriately.  Midnight Sun is in the Whitehorse city centre:

And look!!  The three-eyed raven (Game of Thrones reference) came to visit me!!  Maybe it came so close because I really wanted to get some pictures of the huge ravens on the highway but couldn’t.  This one isn’t as fat as the others I saw, but at least it was friendly!!

Speaking of Game of Thrones, I’m parked outside the Days Inn which just happens to be in cahoots with Wyndham, and while I was here I just happened to log into my rewards account for the first time ever.  Lo and behold, the program has been following me (by phone number maybe?) in that all my Wyndham stays since Chicago have been automatically logged and points earned!!  The first thing I noticed upon logging in was the 15,000 points I had which seemed like a lot but you never really know with these programs but YUP!!  It’s a lot, enough for a free night, woo hoo!  THANKS TORMUND!!
