My official Extra Life gaming marathon to support the kids at Alberta Children’s Hospital is this weekend and starts now!! My team has assembled and we are playing games (mostly World of Warcraft, well all World of Warcraft for me!) for 24 hours non-stop. Our main push for donations will be during this time, even though we have been fundraising all year!!
If you’re not quite familiar with the Extra Life movement, here is a brief description from my fundraising page:
“Extra Life is a Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals fundraising program within the gaming community. Participants fund raise year-round and pledge to game for 24 hours with one goal: to save and improve the lives of sick and injured kids. Funds raised stay local to help pediatric patients at 170 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across North America. Since 2008, Extra Life has raised more than $50 million for member hospitals. The movement, formed by gamers bonded by passion, is committed to saving and improving the lives of local kids.”

As usual, I have a list of missions to accomplish (or die trying!) during this 24 hour stretch. See my World of Warcraft Blog for a post containing this year’s goals! Last year, one of my biggest wants involved fishing, for which there was a chance of fishing up a super rare mount, the Great Sea Ray. According to Wowhead (an amazing WoW reference site), the Great Sea Ray has less than a 1% chance of dropping… There is an achievement for fishing it up, it’s that rare!! I spent probably a good 10 hours off and on trying to get it, then lo and behold, with 10 minutes left to spare in the marathon, I GOT IT!!! All the yelling and screaming and cheering surely woke up all the zombified gamers in the room!!
We’ll see what today’s marathon brings in the end!! Play games, heal kids!!
