Grain Bin Brewing Taproom, Grande Prairie, AB

Whew! Back in Alberta, back in my own time zone!!  An hour and a half drive from Dawson Creek to Grande Prairie just flew by (after 5 hours from Fort Nelson and a break in Dawson Creek), especially when the divided highway began.  Hadn’t seen a divided highway since leaving Edmonton on June 26th!!

I didn’t do much in GP other than spend the night and sample some local beer at Grain Bin Brewing’s taproom!!  I figure it was well earned after a day of driving and wandering around in the hot sun, so yeah!

Again, the pale ale wins it for me!  The Pipestone was my favourite of these samplers, even got a six pack of cans for home.  The berry one was ok, it was almost like one of those fruity beers that doesn’t taste like beer so if you’re into that sort of thing…  It was good, who am I kidding??!  I tried each of these in the order of what was on the paper and at first thought the Red Willow taster was the smoked one.  It had a real smoky, earthy taste to it.  Then I tried the Smoked red, brewed for the Grande Prairie firefighters and wow!  Now THAT was smoky tasting, even smokier than the Red Willow if that could be possible!  All in all some great beers right here in Grande Prairie, Alberta!!

Almost forgot, had a real small taster of the Last Call Brown with Hazelnut and Maple, 1.3% ABV!!  This brew really proves that the term ‘strong beer’ cannot be defined by alcohol volume in craft beer, as this one was certainly strong tasting with the hazelnut and maple flavours!!

Cheers Grande Prairie, my stay was short but sweet!
