So I did a thing, I participated in my first virtual 5K! Being that I was camping on the day of the event, I wasn’t sure that I would actually get it done on the planned event date. Yesterday’s hike around Lake Louise would have been perfect! But my buddies were totally on board with this, it’s amazing the difference that makes! I’ve been a part of the Nerd Fitness Rebellion for probably at least a couple of years now, it’s an online fitness community for nerds around the world.
The object of the Nerd Fitness Virtual 5K was to run, walk, or lizard crawl 5 kilometres… To get out and move in any way that you can. We did it together virtually, as a community on July 18th!
The proof, including the NF5K badge I earned for finishing and submitting my results:
The plan was to hike to the Lake Louise Village Centre and back which wasn’t quite 5K, but we wandered around the campground as well to get the distance in. I think we also ended up on a couple different pathways and got a bit sidetracked. This added to the distance!

The infamous bear fencing that surrounds the campground. We discovered that it exists all along the pathways to the Village Centre as well…

There were actually a few gates along the fencing that allowed you to go on the other side of it! This trail we walked along was on that other side… Talk about living life on the edge!

A good portion of the pathway was along the Bow River… Is there any place that river doesn’t go??

The river was absolutely RAGING… These pictures don’t do it raging justice!

This trail was closer to the Village Centre. The barriers (?) along the sides are filled with hay. Not sure what that is all about, oh well! It was a beautiful walk.

We reached the Village Centre and stopped along the river for a break. Got some goodies at one of the cafes. This is a chocolate mint cream puff. It had me at cream puff so had to try it. It was more like a cookie than a flaky pastry but still good! I’m sure it easily cancelled out all the calories I would have burned on my hike! The drink is a non-alcoholic gin and tonic with cucumber. It looked and was very refreshing, it even tasted like a gin and tonic!

The train. One of the downsides of the campground, as it goes by constantly all day and night. I found I got used to it though. And the river is still raging!

Submitted this picture to the NF5K group, got lots of comments on the beautiful scenery. And yes that is bear spray that I am armed with!

Here is the route we took there and back!

Another successful day of hiking in the books! And a virtual 5K completed as well!
