Lebowski Bar, The Dude Approved!!

By

I was absolutely OVERWHELMED by the amount of bars and restaurants in Reykjavik. Even the coffee shops I saw or visited all seem to sell booze!  There is no way a person could experience a well-rounded assortment of the bars here within a couple of days (maybe if you’re an alcoholic or went on a pub crawl!), so I stuck to my guns and went to a couple that I had heard of or researched ahead of time, one of them being the Lebowski Bar.

This is of course, a themed establishment based on the 1990’s movie, The Big Lebowski, starring Jeff Bridges and John Goodman among others.  And BOWLING!!  It’s a bowling movie, kind of.  Well not entirely, but bowling!  The decor was definitely bowling themed.  Looks like they have an outdoor patio too, complete with sign stating it is open as long as the temperature exceeds 5 degrees Celsius!

The taps (note the can of Folgers if you’ve seen the movie):

The menu (I had the Walter):

And yes, they have 24 different types of White Russians (something else from the movie), but I had a beer (a very commercial Tuborg Classic) sooooo…. HUH!

Aaaaaand… Maybe it’s a bit odd that the movie ‘The Big Lebowski’ wasn’t actually playing on the big screen inside, or maaaaaybe something was calling to me at the precise time I was there…  Shortly after I arrived, ‘Star Wars: The Phantom Menace’ started playing, complete with Icelandic sub titles, well I’m going to presume it was Icelandic!!
