Went to Chicago from April 10th-16th for this year’s Star Wars Celebration, my first Celebration of I’m sure to be more. I’ve determined the Celebration (convention) is a wonderful excuse to travel, as it moves around to a different location in the world each time, this time just happened to be Chicago. My trip was short, only enough time to go to the Star Wars event (5 day event and 2 days travel), so I didn’t have a lot of extra time to actually see the Chicago sights.
Most of what I saw of the city was right around the hotel I stayed at which I believe was ‘downtown’, the Wyndham Grand Chicago Riverfront, which was probably the fanciest hotel I’ve ever stayed at. My room was even on the river side, with a ‘lovely’ view of Trump Tower (haha) and also the river itself, which I think is simply called the Chicago River. Not too far away is Lake Michigan, which the river runs east into. I caught glimpses of the lake during the shuttle service that was provided from the Wyndham to and from McCormick Place, the convention centre.
Views from the room:

I wanted to go on these boats! I think the yellow one is a water taxi, not sure about the white ones:

The tall, two-tone rectangular building to the immediate left of the short round building is the hotel I stayed at, the Wyndham Grand:

Fancy coach-line buses took us from our hotels to and from the convention centre, roughly a 15 minute ride each way depending on traffic and time of day.

I did go to a couple of restaurants for supper around the hotel including the one inside the hotel. Everything was expensive, but I suppose that was to be expected. I also went to Starbucks most mornings, traveled a bit further away to a bar one night to watch the Game of Thrones Season 8 premiere and of course ate at the food courts at the convention centre which actually had some healthy food options but yes, very expensive. More posts to follow on the Star Wars Celebration itself!
