Headed south to Grande Cache, about a 2 hour drive from Grande Prairie and roughly the half way point to my day’s destination of Jasper, AB. It was a beautiful sunny and hot day for driving. There was a mountainous area just north of Grande Cache, along with a facility along the highway that looked like some sort of mining operation, so it was scenic with a lower speed limit going through there.
Without spending a ton of time here, I had planned on finding at least one geocache before continuing on with my journey. After all, it’s Grand CACHE!! Why would I not?
There are lots of caches listed in Grande Cache on the geocaching.com map. I wanted something that would hopefully be quick, so I stopped at the visitor centre on my way through. After studying the map, it was either that or the welcome sign, maybe I should have just done both!

Apparently Grande Cache is one of the most important dinosaur track sites in the world:

So I went inside the visitor’s centre and asked about the geocache in the area. Staff there were all over geocaching in general, they even have a nifty little handout for people interested in geocaching in Grande Cache!

The geocache I found in Grande Cache was my first of this particular kind (spoiler alert below!)

My apologies to the cache owner, I noticed afterward when looking at this picture how much I hogged precious logbook space in this very small cache. I will be mindful of this in the future!

Another short but sweet visit somewhere, but productive and successful. Until next time Grande Cache!!
