There were a few geocaches near the Friendly Vallarta and around places I visited, including the beach, the walking trail, and the Malecón. My family and I searched out all that we could!
The first geocache was along the beach near my resort, and it was a two part cache. Part 1 was outside, and Part 2 involved going inside an establishment, asking about the cache, and hoping the person inside knew what I was talking about!

While searching for the outside cache, we encountered a fellow geocacher, from Canada even, from Alberta even!! Small world!! So we found the cache, signed the log, and then together went inside to enquire about Part 2.

Someone in the establishment did fortunately know about the cache and went to get it for us. This location was my 4th ever find, so when I saw the size of the cache and all of it’s contents, it was a big deal to me! There were trackables and trinkets along with a disclaimer-type card explaining what we have found. My fellow geocacher who has been doing this for awhile, educated me a bit on trackables, as this was the first time I ever saw one. I took the trackable and learned how to log it in my profile inventory. So now I have to take it to another geocache somewhere in the world and drop it there!

Another geocache we discovered was slightly off the walking trail, down a different road and on the boulevard. The container was similar to the previously found (Part 1) geocache:

The next geocache was actually on our walking trail, just a little bit further from the point to where we would normally walk. Some of the activity logged in the app along with the hint on this one sounded like the cache may not be there or may have been moved. There was an alternative note from the owner stating if we cannot find the cache, a selfie at the top of the nearby landmark would suffice.
Well the landmark is a tower with some very rickety looking concrete spiral steps. Can concrete even look rickety? YES. The stairs up were super sketchy. Although we did find the cache, I still took a selfie at the top of the tower, just cuz. Now why I didn’t take a picture of what the whole tower looked like, I’ll never know!!

Here is another virtual cache, my second virtual find with the first being in Iceland. This one is along the Malecón, Neptune and Heredia:

And last but not least, my first ever earth cache. It’s very close in location to the first geocache we found, and although I had read about it ahead of time, it didn’t clue in to me at the time what this was. We actually walked up to this spot on the beach a few times, and then upon re-reading the cache description, it dawned on me and made total sense. So back we went to answer the required questions and log the find.
This spot was a really bizarre location where a river meets the ocean. The river was not all that deep but had a very strong current. And the first day that we walked past it, it actually wasn’t there! Apparently the look of this thing changes all the time.

And that’s a wrap for geocaching in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico!!
