Geocaching: My First Ammo Can!

By

Yaaasss!!  Ammo cans seem to be a pretty big deal in the geocaching world, like they are the container of choice for hiding caches and for finding them too!  So it was fun to find one after hearing so much about them.  My 10,000 step walking mission in Fort Nelson, BC was not just about getting steps in, it was about finding this cache as well.  I was unsure how close I would be able to get if I drove to the cache location and didn’t want to get stuck in the wrong direction on the highway searching for somewhere to turn around, and parking was questionable too although it turned out there was tons.

From where I was in Fort Nelson to the cache location was roughly a 6 km round trip and it was a beautiful day out, so why not walk?  Of course with not knowing the area, I also didn’t know if I’d be able to walk the entire way to the cache from where I was as opposed to driving, and when the sidewalk and pathway ran out, I was faced with a tree lined grassy area.  Thankfully the grass had been freshly mowed otherwise I don’t think I would have continued!

Found it!!  When looking at the geocaching map during my trip, I was always glad to see a Travel Bug ‘Hotel’ where ever I was planning to stop, because I have a PILE of travel bugs that I picked up at an event and wanted to drop them in caches as soon as possible so they could continue on their journeys.  I also hoped the TB Hotels might be easier to find because they are bigger than all the micros and nanos I usually get (if I can even find them) in cities and towns.

This cache had a logbook and a few odds and ends but no travel bugs currently sitting in it which was fine by me as I wanted to be rid of the ones I had and not collect a bunch more, not yet!

This is Thomas the Turkey (below), one of the travel bugs I had and left behind in this cache.  He wants to travel around and have his picture taken with fellow ‘turkeys’…  Well I took a turkey picture before I left home so that I could post it on Thomas’ page whenever I decided to drop him off.

I wished him well and hoped he doesn’t end up like the turkeys in this picture:

Safe travels Thomas!!
