Watson Lake, YT: Part 2!

By

A small amount of back tracking in the grand scheme of things, it was a 5-ish hour drive back to Watson Lake from Whitehorse.

Watson Lake, Part 2: The Sequel!!  I didn’t do much here this time ’round.  I camped, went for breakfast the next day, and moved on!

The Watson Lake campground is a few kilometres off the highway just barely west of the town, and when I first got there around 3:30 pm it appeared to be completely deserted.  I contemplated whether I should stay but then reminded myself it was still early and more humans would probably show up.  I still had bears on my mind!  When I drove through the campground, the first half of it was totally empty.  There ended up being a few people camped out in the back of the loop though, and more back toward the start, does that even make sense??

My main concern was getting a spot close to some outhouses and the pay box, so I wouldn’t have to walk a kajillion miles in the remoteness.  Well, the very last spot in the loop took me back to the beginning where the pay box is.  And 12 bux a night, how can you go wrong with that?!!

And love it or hate it, these outhouses (below) were directly behind my campsite!  There was a path in the other direction for people to use.  I LOVED that I could see these from my tent.  And like everything in Yukon, they were IMMACULATE.  No odor coming from them at all, same with the Yukon River campground by Dawson City.

Got a picture of some ravens squawking in the trees, kinda hard to see them though.  I don’t think they sleep (it doesn’t get dark out!) because they were cawing all night long, and very loudly!!  I still LOVE them though 🙂

Speaking of lack of darkness and camping and outhouses, a huge benefit here: There’s no walking to the outhouse in the dark north of 60 in the summer months!!

Packed up my camp and went for breakfast at Watson Lake to Kathy’s Kitchen, standard breakfast menu although a lot like home cooking.  Had to try the eggs benny of course and it was good!

Onward!  And downward!  Back to Fort Nelson and then Dawson Creek, BC!!  Saw this whole herd of bison just outside Watson Lake on the way:

There was absolutely no traffic on the highway so I did the touristy thing and stopped to take pictures since I haven’t captured any other highway wildlife pictures 😛
