Did the drive from Watson Lake to Dawson Creek over two days while stopping in Fort Nelson for the night. There was no more back tracking after Fort Nelson! Pressed on, stopping at Pink Mountain (roughly half way between FN and DC) for fuel and breezed through Fort St John all the way down to Dawson Creek which was just under a 12 hour drive total from Watson Lake.

Dawson Creek is Mile 0 of the Alaska Highway!! So now I can say I traveled most of it (Dawson Creek, BC to Tok, AK). It’s a pretty big deal here with monuments and touristy stuff all over the place. Thanks to geocaching, I spent slightly more time in this city than I probably would have though 😛
First up was a specific geocache that I wanted to find in order to hopefully start my progress on an event happening at geocaching.com called “Mystery at The Museum”. This is my first year geocaching, so I’m not really up on these types of events and how they work. Mystery at The Museum started today, on July 11th and goes until August 11th so hey, may as well attempt to follow the instructions and hope for the best!! I had already figured that if I first found a cache that would get me started with the event, then other caches I find afterward may also help with my event progress going forward. Turned out this was true, I’m so smart! 😛
This picture is of Peace Park, potentially a needle in a haystack for a geocache (spoiler alerts ahead!!)

It’s a good thing the cache description had a hint, otherwise I may never have found this one as the GPS co-ordinates did not place me at the correct location. The general vicinity yes, but I had to walk a bit from where the co-ordinates had me and change my angle before it all made sense. I don’t think the cache had been inadvertently moved either, as the hint made the location pretty obvious.
The logbook was soaked as per what the last cache finder had mentioned, but my stamp still worked and so did the last person’s pencil:

Aaaaand I unlocked the next step in Mystery at The Museum by finding ‘The Detective’, woo hoo!! Got this funky geocaching souvenir too, the detective has briefed me on the case!

Next up, some Mile 0 monuments and another geocache or two:

Not sure why this Mile 0 marker is inside the Alaska Highway House when just outside in the middle of the intersection…

Is this!!

Maybe the inside one is a safer spot for a photo op, since the outside one is smack in the middle of an intersection.
And what have we here?? Is that an ammo box I see?

Score!!

The Dawson Creek Visitor’s Centre with its pretty landscaping, packed full of information and souvenirs:

…and maybe a little something else hiding in plain sight?

All in all, I’d say I had a productive couple of hours in Dawson Creek, BC!!
